We will again be offering Self Defense Classes this Fall This is a hands on class Wear loose clothes and something strong enough to be pulled on by your practice partner. (ages 14 and up) learn to defend yourself. What would you do if a dangerous physical situation arose? Would you be able to get away? Would you be able to react confidently and effectively to remove yourself from potential harm? Join this class and you will learn the basics of self-defense. You will learn escapes from grabs and choke holds. You will focus on techniques that are effective with minimal training. You will also learn how to use common, everyday objects like pens, keys, umbrellas and magazines as self-defense weapons. You will learn the assertive, non-victim approach to defense. Mothers and daughters, you are encouraged to participate together. Men, you are welcome too. No one wants to encounter dangerous situations, but knowledge could be your best weapon! Wear comfortable clothes. The class will begin with a discussion on the things we might do to minimize our risks and the possibility that we might become a victim. The techniques and moves are kept very basic and simple. You do not have time to remember complicated techniques in a self-defense situation. We will first give you strong but simple tools you can use to defend yourself. Kicks and strikes etc! You will learn to use your feet, knees, elbows, hands and head effectively. Then we will combine these techniques as counter moves with self -defense techniques. There will be a short break with question and answer about half way through the class. The last section of the class! We will have a period where you can ask about different scenarios and we will give you a few possible defenses you might use. At the completion of the class, you will have the opportunity to do a karate technique through a piece of wood. It is our hope to empower you with attitude and confidence. Instructors Experience: The instructors for the self defense classes are all members of the internationally recognized organization, Isshinryu World Karate Association (IWKA). The head instructor, Sensei John Hoffmire will be assisted staff instructors from the Indy Isshinryu Bushido Karate Club. |
