2011 June 25   IWKA World Tournament Rules

Pre-registration only tournament

Registrations must be received before June 12th 2011. 
Spectators $8.00 before June 12th 2011. Spectators will be $10.00 the day of the event. Children under 3 are free.

RULES: Are there for everyone! All competitors are required to act with positive sportsmanship.
Any non-sportsman like conduct will result in disqualification. Decisions of the tournament officials are final.

Personal Attire

Only clean, white Gi will be allowed.  All Yudansha are required to wear ONLY WHITE GI & BLACK BELTS. (No red or red/white belts will be permitted.)

No jewelry will be permitted on any competitor.

Kata/Weapons

No late entries to a division will be permitted after division bow in.

Empty Hand Katas permitted: H-pattern, Seisan, Seiuchin, Wansu, Chinto, Naihanchi, Kusanku, Sunsu, Sanchin

Weapon Katas permitted: Kiyan no Sai, Kusanku Sai, Chatanyara no Sai,

       Tokomino no Kun, Urashi Bo, Shishi no Kun no dai,

Hamahiga, Chie fa (Black Belts Only)

First 3 competitors up before scoring.  Scoring in these ranges: lower belts 5 to 7 , intermediate 6 to 8 , Advanced and Black 7 to 9.  With 5 judges; high and low score will be discarded for final score. In the event of a tie: add in the remaining low score – if necessary remaining high score will be added. If tie remains an additional kata/form will be performed and a show of hands by an odd # of Judges will determine winner.

PLEASE NOTE: Advanced and Black Belts will be required to perform a different kata/form when required to break a tie.

GRAND CHAMPION DIVISIONS           

Black Belts (16 yrs. & Up) – All are required to perform Sunsu Kata for Grand Champion hand kata divisions

Female Forms Grand Champion Kata and Weapons. Female Sparring Grand Champion

Male Forms Grand Champion  Kata and Weapons    Male Sparring Grand Champion 
Kumite / Sparring  Grand Champion division will be 2 minutes - 5 points.

 

Sparring/Kumite

  • Kumite matches will be for two (2) minutes running time. Time stop if needed.
  • Three (3) point matches. If a tie exists after two (2) minutes then sudden victory to break the tie, first to score with a clean technique wins.
  • NO SEE RULE IS IN EFFECT. This means that if two out of five judges do not see the point the majority of the remaining three will determine the awarded point. Furthermore if three judges do not see a the point the majority of the remaining two will determine the awarded point. Center Judge has final say.  
  • Any safety gear deemed unsafe, by tournament officials will need to be replaced.
  • Safety gear required: Foam headgear ( all competitors ), safety punch, safety feet (shin & instep will be permitted), mouth guards, groin cups. Shin guard are recommended but not required.
  • Target areas are: Torso (no spine), 6” halo around the head or light contact to headgear. Judges are encouraged to call 6” halo to reduce the chance of excessive head contact .
  • NO FACE, NECK, GROIN or CHIN CONTACT. As well as no kicks to Knees-Legs.
  • NO EXCESSIVE BODY CONTACT. No blind techniques
  • No coaching competitors or questioning Judges
  • Leg checks permitted to back of leg only and followed by technique, but NO SWEEPS OR TAKEDOWNS.
  • NO KICKING to a person who is on the ground. However, competitors have three (3) seconds to strike without contact using hand techniques.
  • Out of bounds under one's own power – Any body part that is out of the ring can be considered out of bounds. 1st out - a warning will be given. 2nd out - a point awarded to opponent. Points may be scored against a person out of bounds. However, a point will not be award if delivered from out of bounds. The line is out thus stepping on the line is out of bounds.
  • NO HOLDING. Competitors may grab, strike immediately (2 seconds) then let go to score a point. However, holding will not be permitted.

Sportsmanship

NO Sideline Coaching, Sideline coaching will result in a warning followed by points awarded to the opponent or disqualification.  Other un-sportsman like acts will also result in the same point reductions or disqualification.
