Karate Is Hard Work
Expectations:
The study of Karate while enjoyable and rewarding for some. Is not for everyone. The skills involved in learning Karate take hours of hard work and dedication. There is no way around that. There are no magic techniques that can be learned to make you a skilled martial artist.
Almost everyone will learn and develop at a rate, which is directly related to the time, and effort that you put into practice and study. Not only in the dojo (school), but also away from the school.
We realize that not everyone can do all of the techniques and exercises that we teach. For new students: We only ask that you try.
If you pay attention, try to do the techniques and exercises correctly, work hard, practice at home. You will improve.
With improvement comes, greater confidence, strength, speed and endurance.
Promotion – There are many different things we learn in karate, exercises, kicks, self defense and sparring to name a few. All promotions depend on several different things
Practical knowledge, good attitude, stances, basic techniques and katas ( forms). (
A student should try not to compare themselves with the student next to them. Just practice hard and try to improve themselves everyday. We know this is hard to do, but one of the most basic teachings of karate. Is to work to improve yourself each day of your life. By doing this you will develop the skills necessary for success.
Courtesy, Respect and Discipline:
If you are new to a martial arts class! One of the first things you will notice is the bowing that takes place. This is so traditional to a karate class, that we who have been around karate for several years. Think nothing about it. There are many ways to look at the bowing. When we walk into the dojo. The bow is like a respectful hello to an old friend. When we bow into the class. Notice that not only do the students bow towards the instructors. The instructors also bow to the students. It is a sign of mutual respect and an agreement that we will work and practice hard. The art of karate teaches. That you should be respectful, courteous, controlled and disciplined. Discipline takes many forms. Sometimes it is the internal discipline you develop. That makes you work hard when no one is watching. Or makes you study, when you would rather play.
Without courtesy, respect and discipline. It would not be karate!
